Simon, the Mac version of 7zip which is called Keka works fine. I
unlocked the file that had been locked under Windows. this is a good
solution because I can lock any file or folder. Its a good second choice
in addition to 1Password.

I think word can let you set a password protected file from within it's options,

But single file, I'd go PDF or now that I think about it, A file
