Jonathan,
She is talking about braille screen input mode which as accessed on
an iDevice.
But you mentioned seeing dot 8 codes. Can you find that source
again? Yes that will do accented characters and I would like to have a list.
From E.T.'s Keyboard...

I believe that dot 1 dot 8 produces a back slash as in what is used to separate
directory names in Windows paths. I am fairly confident I have seen some
accented characters use dot 8, but I usually was looking at DuoLingo in 7 dot
computer Braille where the accent always uses the same two character prefix to
the Latin letter rather than being inconsistent. So when I started out in 8
dot, and saw patterns I didn’t recognize on my iPhone I just switched
translation using with dots 1,2,4,5 .
Also, if you can find it on-line I believe one of the appendixes of the Braille
Note Touch lists all of the computer Braille codes.

I'd like to know more about this. I usually use 6 dot mode but it has a number
of problems for me. I really like computer braille so I think I'd like 8 dot
mode. Now I understand what dot 7 does. what does dot 8 do?
thanks.
