Normally, when choosing an iTunes library from the Option key, I
suggest you pick the iTunes parent folder,, not the iTunes Media
folder. Since the parent folder contains the ITL and other database
files, the proper libraries are normally chosen. It looks like what
you did worked anyway, so good work.

Had a hunch so while holding the option key I opened iTunes and
tried choosing the library that way. Selected the iTunes Media folder
and opened it. Got an error message and googled it. Eventually found
the fix was to select the .itl file directly. But it was old so copied
the most current one from backup. That did it and I watched Star Trek. :)
I don't know why that most current file was not on the external
drive but was on the backup drive which I run weekly. Strange.

local media, but not the iCloud Music Library based content. When I

Sure does sound like a security thing to me, but I'm not sure where

booted High Sierra which I had cloned to another drive and its all
working there. Checked settings, didn't see anything different.

Nothing seems to work. I have disconnected the external drive and
I still see the content in iTunes and I have repeated changing the
location in preferences. The only thing I have not done is to reboot
Apple TV, I miss my Star Trek. :)
