Thank you. I was able to get things going, though now in addition to
having a working version of Chrome on my dock, I have a space that
says “Google Chrome not found,” and I cannot figure out how to get rid
of it. But thank you for your offer of help.

Try using AppCleaner to clear out Google Chrome preference files. If
you don't want to download an App for this, I can provide details

Hello all:
I have just about had it with SAfari busy, and have noticed I have
fewer issues with Google Chrome. So I changed it to my default
browser and downloaded the newest version. The problem is, each and
every time I open it from the dock, I get a message like “”Your
profile could not be used because it is associated with a newer
version of Chrome. Some features may not be available. Provide a
different path to your profile or use a newer version of Chrome.”
Thing is, as far as I can tell, only the newer version is on my
computer. I tried trashing, rebooting, redownloading, and
reinstalling. I don’t know what’s happening.
