Unfortunately, I can only answer one of your questions. The messages app on Macintosh used to work with Facebook messages but no longer does. I believe for a while after they dropped support for the JABBER protocol that another application perhaps called trillium could still do messaging with Facebook. I have pretty much kept away from FB messaging services.
