A couple of tips:
The restart command for the 7, 7+, 8, 8+ are different from older models. You need to press and hold the power and volume down key, I believe it also works with the volume up key, for about 8 seconds, then release both. Since the home key is driven by the software and not the hardware, it will not work to restart the phone.
I do not know the restart procedure for the X, but I’m sure someone else does.
Regarding forcing VO to start reading, you can simply flick up with two fingers, no need to touch the top of the phone and flick down.

The command is a little different to bring up the power off / emergency calling screen on the iPhone X. Press and hold power and one of the volume buttons together for a couple seconds.

I was wondering if Siri could be used to restart the device; thanx for the tip on how to restart the device.  I remember with older phones, it used to be the home+power button, but now, all that seems to do is take screenshots.

Have you tried double tapping with two fingers, to toggle speech? If this doesn’t work, then hold down the power button and, I believe, the volume up buttons for ten seconds. Then, release the volume key, while still holding the power button. I really wish Siri could be used to restart devices, but ah well.

I just started noticing the day before, then right after upgrading to the latest fermware, that for no apparent reason, voiceover would still be active, but would mysteriously stop speaking, even after disabling and relaunching.  I’ve tried a soft reset which if I remember correctly, you’re supposed to hold down the home button and power button at the same time for about 30 seconds, but when I do that and release them, all that does is take screenshots. I can’t even power my phone off properlywhen this happens without help, sense the double-tap feature isn’t working, and when I tried making a call using Siri, the whole screen freezes after the call is placed, so I have no keypad, no way to end the call, etc.  Has anyone else ever had this issue?
