-Hello Christine.

You ask a very good question the answer to which is the following:

A .brf/.brl file is merely a text file. Consequently, you can use any word
processing application to view it.

On Windows, I generally use Notepad or Wordpad.

On the Mac, I recommend that you use Text Edit.

So, instead of clicking on the .brf file from within Finder, first, open Text
Edit and from within it, find the .BRF file that you wish to read with your
Braille display.

Good luck.

Mark

Subject: Confused about reading brf files on Braille display connected to
iPhone or MacBook Air

OK, so there is no problem accessing Bookshare’s html files in contracted
Braille when I have my preferences set for that, but I thought (apparently
mistakenly) that I would be able to read brf files from Bookshare, BARD Mobile,
NBP, etc.,` with a Braille display. However, on my MacBook, I am getting that
there is “no application” which can open a BRF file. What am I missing?
Thanks in advance.

Christine
