You use command+w to close a window and command+q to quit an
application, these are not voiceover keystrokes at all.

I am trying to help my friend with his mac. The problem we are having
is that VO+w does not close a window. Likewise, VO+q does not close an
app. Is this something that happens with a new machine out of the box?
Do I need to use the function key in conjunction?
