Hello Mike,

Your question is difficult to answer because OverDrive for iOS, while VoiceOver
accessible, is not the most intuitive of iOS apps to use.

Having said this, I use OverDrive for iOS every single day and I love it. Keep
in mind, however, that I do have some vision and that I have been using
OverDrive for several years.

The short answer to your question is that, with VoiceOver enabled, you can
definitely borrow books from any associated lending library.

Getting OverDrive working with the Kendal app can be done but, as I said
earlier, it is not very intuitive, from a reader's point of view. However,
once you enable the prerequisite authorizations, you should be good to go.

I would strongly suggest that you have a sighted person, on hand, during the
Kendal authorization process.

Also, keep in mind that while OverDrive works very well with regard to
listening to audio books, native eBooks do not work well when VoiceOver is
enabled. This is why you will definitely want to use the Kendall app in
concert with OverDrive when attempting to read eBooks.

I realize that my answer sounds somewhat contradictory but I can assure you it
is not. It simply reflects the somewhat access ambiguity of the Overdrive app,
itself.

Good Luck,

Mark

Subject: Accessibility of Overdrive on iOS apps?

Hello everyone,

Sometime ago, I learned that, although I live in Europe, I can have membership
at the library where I have lived in the States. Since I would like to start
checking out books from there, and they use a platform called Overdrive, I am
wondering about its accessibility and usability on iOS devices.

If I am correctly informed, the books that I will be able to check out can be
read on the Kindle app, but somehow, Overdrive needs to be launched in the
background.

Has anyone residing in the US had any experience checking out books from their
local library and if so, how easy is it to check out and read the books from an
accessibility standpoint?

Thanks in advance,

Mike
