I have done this once manually. Basically the ringtone is a short mp3 with a
different file extension. I believe the extension required is m3r.
So, create an mp3 with 30 seconds or less of audio, then rename it. To rename a
file on the Macintosh, just press enter when the file is selected. If you then
put this m3r file into the iTunes
