The first pairning to your iPHone 7 isn’t a case of tapping the phone with the
pods,
I still have to tell it to pair and sometimes have had to press the button on
the pod case.

But the first pairing also sets up the pods in all devices using the same
iCloud account so I see them in my watch, pad and mac book air because it’s
running sierra,

I’ve personally found that my pods need to be manually paired to my iPad when I
go to use that,
There isnn’t an automatic switch over to the device the pod thinks your using.

I always thought it was supposed to be manual. Right now, I'm wearing an Apple
Watch, have an iPhone in my pocket, and am typing on a MacBook with an old Mac
mini behind it. Given that I'm in easy range of four authenticated devices, how
would automatic pairing with AirPods work? They would have no way of knowing
which device I wanted them to use. My impression has always been that the
pairing is what syncs, so you never need to manually pair AirPods with any
device connected to your iCloud account. Even the first pairing is just a tap,
not a code and a special mode. Once you do that, all your other devices save
the Pods as an option to use in the future, so you don't need to pair them with
anything but the first device. Actively using them, though, has to be a manual
process or the Pods wouldn't know what to do in many situations.

Hi Donna,

No they don’t seem to do that, even when switching bck to the phone you have to
do the switch over manually,
The only ting I’ve noticed of automatic is the setup on the phone and the pods
showing up in Bluetooth of all devices.

Hey Paul,

Pressing Connect in the bluetooth menu did get them to switch from my phone to
my Mac, but now they won't switch back to my phone unless I manually go in and
switch them.. If that's the way they're supposed to work, that's fine, but I
thought they could switch without the user having to manually go in and tell
them to.
Cheers,
Donna

Try going into Bluetooth on the particular device, and you should see the

Hi all,

My understanding was that the AirPods are supposed to automatically pair with
any device that is connected to iCloud, and automatically switch to the device
that you are using. I have not been able to get them to play with either my
watch or my Mac. How do I do this?
TIA,
Donna
