This is correct, Simon. It's a problem both both SIP gateway services, and also SIP hardware devices.
Just in the past half year I've picked up a Snom D715 handset which has IPv6 support. It, and the Snom 820 series, and possibly current Digium handsets are the only ones currently supporting IPv6, afaik. Notably missing here is Polycom. Meanwhile, I can report my Snom D715 is working perfectly well over IPv6 only. It's my desk handset sitting a few inches to my left as I type this email. My only complaint is that it's really hard to learn how to manage calls on it, because its buttons change functions based on circumstances--all of which is, of course, uselesslly displayed on the phone's screen. It is a Linux based phone, so I've toyed with the notion of trying to hack in and compile something to make it talk its screen--something like Speakup perhaps.
