Holy backup project Batman! I got my MacBook Air in Summer 2011, and I have faithfully used Time Machine since. Finally, in the last 6 Months my external hard drive got full and some old backups were automatically deleted. So, I bought a new 1TB drive. Yesterday, around 3:15 PM, I began the process of transfering the TM backup from my old drive to my new one. It finished around noon today. I gave everything a break for a while, then pointed Time Machine to my new drive and began the fresh backup. My MBA hasn't been backed up since Sept, so this took a little while. ;) Not nearly as long as the transfer.
The next thing I'm going to tackle is deleting some of the oldest TM backups on my original external drive so I can keep using it for TM. This way I'll have 2, nearly complete backups. I should maybe consider some off site backup, but that feels like a whole other can of worms. Lol, this was a big enough project. I've never left my Mac on over night finishing up a task. Fingers crossed, the Western Digital Elements drive is a good one. My Seagate has never had an issue over these 6 years. Thanks for your guy's input on my Time Machine and backup questions.
