Maybe the VO navigation reads it differently. Come to think of it, I had a bunch of graphics or something in an article a while back so I stopped reading text that way. I had forgotten about that. I use the item chooser if I know the subject of the article that I want to read an once I get to the text, I hit enter to select it and then VO/a to read it to the end.
