You know… I bought Scribiner back in the days, and was super impressed with it. Like you however, it wasn’t so much that I found the internal help to be too visually oriented as much as at times, I found it a slight bit overwhelming. So I’m totally with you here! If anyone knows of anything, please do let us both know. :)
