Hi David, Sorry to hear you had a bad night, From reports I've heard the main quake struck as David said after midnight local time, we have one time zone here. There were / have been up till now approx. 450 +/- after shocks I had heard something about there having been some smaller quakes north of wellington,
Not confirmed but it is a fault line area. Main damage as I stated previously is inferstructure within the northern Canterbury area mainly roads and rail systems between Christchurch and northern parts of south island, has cut off all raod and rail freight shipments from north island to Christchurch by road / rail, it's kind of difficult to explain the eppi centre area, but imagine the ruggidous coast line of rocks and mountains up to the water line then cut a road way out of the side of the mountain above the coastal shore, oh and for good measure put a few tunnels along the way for the rail lines and road to go through, that's pretty much the landscape along the shore line in the area the quake struck. Wellington is a good 300 Km north of where the quake struck -- The following information is important for all members of the Mac Visionaries list.
