So for you what you want is an unlocked iPhone 7 / 7+. You need one with the Qualcomm modem which I understand the unlocked versions are. You can’t use a GSM model only with Sprint as Sprint’s outdated network still uses CDMA for the voice channel and to fill in where there’s no LTE which is large parts of the country.
If you get the correct iPhone then yes, it’s literally as easy as swapping SIM cards. You can definitely try out what ever carrier you want and then if you like put in your old SIM and reactivate your Sprint service by using the old SIM (reactivate is the wrong word just connect to that’s a better way to put it). Switch the SIMs and switch networks, literally that easy. Something the Europeans have been doing for more than a decade before us.:) Give T-Mobile a shot.
