The fan will kick in when ever your machine starts to chug along and do some 
heavier processing.  Booting can do this, running virtual machines, or anything 
intensive.  A malfunctioning app like voiceover could also do this.  Best thing 
to do is report the issue to apple, it may be a memory leak.
