This rumor has been around for years. Lat time I investigated it, it was about the ipod nano. I can believe they are going to discontinue that. They might even discontinue the ipod touch but they'd probably replace it with a small ipad. The ipod touch is much more like a small, inexpensive ipad than it is like a nano. I don't know why they call it an ipod.

I still have an ipod touch 4 which I use literally every day almost from dawn to dusk. I use it as an alarm clock in the morning, as an mp3 player while I'm working out, and for listening to books in the evening.

The iPod 6 came out in July of 2015, so it's not really all that

discontinue the 6, that they will be replacing it with a newer model
instead of dropping it off of the market. When the Watch can run iOS
entirely, and only then, would I consider it a viable replacement. I
have no interest in a bulky iPad myself, but know I'm in the minority.

Hi Donna,

Yeah I've noticed that myself,

I have 3 iPods
A 16gb fifth gen,
A 64 gb fifth gen
And a 64 gig 6th gen

So the only one updated to IOS 10 is the sixth gen which I have my audio
books on,
The 16gb fifth gen is the one I use as a cycle / training computer and
that's the one I'm thinking of replacing.

So replacing it will be the interesting thing, might have a look at a
slightly older phone like a 5 or 5s

Simon,

Depending on what your next upgrade path is, you might want to just use an
old iPhone, or even by one used. If you get an iPod, it'll have the A8
chip, as opposed to the A10 that is in the current model. It also won't
have the W1 chip--or whatever it's called.) It'll also have a longer shelf
life. One thing that has happened to me is that the 5th gen isn't
upgradable to IOS 10. I suspect that in a year or so, the 6th Gen will stop
being upgradable as well. And, not that I've ever needed it, but I figure
this way I'll have a backup if anything happens to my phone. I know it
seems kind of like overkill, but I think if they're not going to update the
iPod, that is the way I'm going to go.
Cheers,
Donna

Apparently the speculation is that to facilitate this the Watch will
increase to 8 GB and beyond. Someone posted a link to this discussion

That's interesting. It would absolutely never occur to me to use my

bother with that when you could just store your music directly on
the player? I'm thinking about things like long car trips here,
where you might not have WIFI, and you could burn through a lot of
data if you used your data connection. I think I'll stick with my
plan to keep an old phone as an iPod. :) Cheers, Donna

You may be wise. Tthe discussions I have seen is that Apple want to

I went to the Apple Store in the UK and there is no mention of the iPod
apart from its presence in a list of products described as being in the
page "footer area".

The iPod is certainly not in the headlining products for the Store now
so it seems it has at least shifted in priorities for marketing.

Chris,

Had you paid attention, you would have noticed that my subject line
contained a question mark. One reason I brought the issue to the
attention of the list is because I figured someone here would have
better information than the guy from BestBuy. Last I heard, asking
questions was allowed on this list. So hold your criticism.
