Hi Simon, Obviously, the sound is a subjective thing. But Bowers and Wilkins has been one of my favorite speaker companies for a very long time. The thing that's really great about these headphones, the wired ones, I don't have the other ones, is for one thing how they fit. They are one of the very few headsets I can wear for a very long time without any discomfort on my ears or the sides of my face. They are just that comfortable. The sound is really really good, even if you don't have a headphone amplifier. I have another set of very nice headphones from AKG which are also very good, but without a headphone amp, they kind of art so great, because they just need more to drive them then the little amps in phones have. The new pair of P7, being wireless, will work with the new iPhone 7 without any problem. But it will be Bluetooth. And Bluetooth audio is something of a step down. But these also come with a cable which you can connect. So, if you have another device that will utilize a headphone jack, then you got that too. The new ones, judging from the reviews, sound even better than the original wired variant. Supposedly, there is a bit more base. I don't find mine bass shy, but I am also not a big listener of rap or other bass heavy music. Smile. Mary
