It just saves you a step as you only have to set the phone down on the pad. You do not need to bother with the plug, which wares out over time, especially if like me you’re always picking up the phone and forgetting to unplug it before walking away. It’s also very nice for people with impaired motor ability who have trouble with the small plug. My wife loves hers for that reason.
