There is no DRM involved with iTunes Match but there is a signature where basically your Apple ID is inserted into the Extended Tag properties of each file file you download using Match.

This extended tag willl have a lable of ITUNESACCOUNT followed by your Apple ID without any spaces. This means that any Match Music you share with others could theoretically be sourced back to you as the originator and presumably there is a risk you may face consequences if this music is shared. Amazon do something similar but do not bother using extended tag properties but just the normal comments sections of tagged music files the last time I looked.

I do not know of any way of displaying the Extended Tag properties of a m4a file using a Mac, though normal tag properties are easily visible. However if you use the free Mp3Tag utility under windows in boot camp or Fusion and invoke the extended tag view you will easily be able to find what I am talking about.

I don’t really want Match, but I have considered using it because I have so much music that was ripped from CD at lower quality and it would be nice to replace it all without having to go through all the CDs again. One thing I wonder though, Is there some DRM component in the downloaded copies that would force me to keep Match from then on?

The best way I have found to do this, is delete the local copy, and download it again from iTunes match.

Hi all,

I have some songs that I imported from CDs, and I'd like to replace them with the matched versions. You used to be able to do this by interacting with the place where it said download/local, but that doesn't seem to be an option in the current version of iTunes. Anyone know how to do this in the current version?
TIA,
Donna
