When choices appear and disappear with no user control, this kind of thing
is what I call a nanny os. It means the os developer decides how the user
is to encounter applications. This is a product of the graphical user
interface.
The most obvious form of it is determining for the user the form and
contents and logic for using menus and other such functions. This goes
for keyboard commands as well
In the case of os10 those things we interact with using vo in the form of
tables and other such things. Did you ever notice in vo utility the table
of choices works differently then other places in the os? In most places
making a choice brings one to the place to work with it. In vo utility
after making a choice one first stops interaction before working with the
selection.
One of the powers of a command line interface is that almost all
functionality is for the user to decide exactly as he wants it to work.
In os10 much of the nanny os mentaility can be overcome by using the
various commanderrs and the things in the order and with the logic the
user wants. With key and numpad and trackpad and voice commanders
available one can really take control of the os10 system.
One can also attach commanders to scripts that run in terminal and apple
script. This is a very powerful way to avoid much of the nanny os
mentality developers have.

Hi,
The ability to disable Auto-Complete has been deprecated. There used to be an
option to do this, but it no longer is available.

Thank you very much Mark for asking this question as Auto complete drives me
insane. Like you I hate it. I also have turned it off in Windows. If you can
disable it in Windows then you should be able to disable it on the Mac. If
it?s not there, those who are doing beta testing, please request that as a
feature.
Many thanks.
Kawal.

Hello Everyone,
When I begin typing in a URL in the Safari location bar (Command+L), the
auto-complete kicks in; I really don't like this feature.
How can I disable this feature?
I looked in Safari preferences but cannot seem to find the necessary option.
Could this, perhaps, be a system-wide setting?
All replies greatly appreciated.
