This is the last I will publicly comment on anything relating to the religious
angle of the headphone thread as preposterous as that sounds.

The sad thing is the zealots who inject their comments in apple threads or
suffering through a litany of bible verses and other nonsense unasked for in a
list like this, we’re a lot closer than we think.
I’m going to start with our Current pope who is very open to Science.
He’s recently stated that it’s possible that the big bang and evolution are the
tools used by God for creation. The Catholic Church now spends massive amounts
of money researching astronomical events. It’s my understanding they have
their own observatory, I know that there is a very Senior position in the
Vatican for a science advisor and yes, the Catholic church has even not only
spoken about extra terrestrial beings they have funded parts of the research
for that intelligence. This very same pope has mentioned that it’s very
possible that other life exists in other places and in his words we are not the
only instance of God’s intelligent creations. I’ll buy that! Unlike the
extremists who throw us in to wars or speak about our own citizens with as much
hate as the Taliban I am as a science minded person totally open to the idea
that an intelligent force could be at work. I have no proof for it and I
personally don’t think it’s the most likely solution but I have no proof
against. This means, to truly support the scientific method I must be open to
proof (real proof Chuck not just arbitrary markings on outdated calendars) for
the existence as well as against the existence. I say I’m an atheist because
we need an extreme statement to cut through the noise but honestly, I don’t
know. I’m a very strong I don’t know.
IF we quote from our Christian friends book that we’re constantly
bashed over the head with there’s a little verse 1:16 I’d like to bring
attention to.

"This was the appearance and structure of the wheels: They sparkled like
chrysolite, and all four looked alike. Each appeared to be made like a wheel
intersecting a wheel." (Ezekiel 1:16)

As an inhabitant of the twenty first century that sounds more like either the
representation of a theoretical 0 point energy device or (E.T. I hope you’re
sitting down)(nah I know you know this one) a means of transportation. Similar
could be said for the Burning Bush. This sighting represents primitive man’s
attempt to understand something outside the ability of his current
understanding. I think he did a pretty good job especially if you continue on
with that whole section. Humans had just about as much ability to describe
advanced aircraft back then as they did a Microwave oven, it was all magic.
In other parts of the world, our Hindu friends for example speak of
wars in the past fought in the sky. There are places in South East Asia where
there are deposits of silicates that appear to be the result of nuclear
detonations. You can buy Trinitium glass today from the test site in White
Sands that has the exact same characteristics of what’s found in rock samples
from 100,000 years ago. Another explanation for their visions are comets
pelting the earth. These would look like and have the similar effects to high
yield explosives. In 1908 such a fragment hit the earth in Siberia and
flattened thousands of square miles of trees looking like a bomb had been set
off at high altitude above the area. That’s in fact what happened. A huge
chunk of ice hit the atmosphere at 30,000 MPH and blew up like a bomb. This
happened again over a town in the former Soviet union 2 years ago and injured
thousands and that rock was only the size of a VW Beatle. As we grow, our
understanding should grow. We should be more rational.
When the Christians kill the brown people for believing differently and
the brown people kill other brown people and the white people for not buying
their special brand of hate and the white man profits (heh) from it all it’s
very very sad. Thankfully, the Christian Fringe like the Phil’s and Chuck’s of
the world are a dying breed. There’s been a 24% reduction in religiosity in
America since the close of the twentieth century, a much higher increase in
Europe and even our modern religious leaders are expanding their view.
In case you all don’t realize, I’ve read your book, and an English
translation of the Moslem book (I’m sorry I don’t speak any middle eastern
dialects sufficiently), the Satanic Bible (which is more of a satirical book),
I personally own a Salvador Dolley illustrated / Alister Crowley annotated Book
of the Dead (autographed), a Joseph Campbell autographed Campbell’s Mythology,
a Teachings of Don Juan, Terrance McKenna Invisible Landscapes and his other
works on eschatology, and a fair bit of far eastern writings to many to mention
here. So I’ve read fairly extensively on the subject just to try to understand
where you all are coming from. I can just bet that the Phil’s and Chucks of he
world haven’t bothered giving my side equal time. Even such minds as Einstein
spoke in terms of intelligent design of the universe. Sure, quantum mechanics
undid a lot of that and proved that Einstein’s god was a habitual dice player
but the open-mindedness was there. It’s not on the opposing side of the
argument with so many.
I don’t mind arguing these points in fact I like it but in it’s proper
place. Don’t assault me on technical mailing lists. Don’t force your views on
me on public transportation. Stop waking me up on Sunday morning when I’m hung
over. Stop injecting it in your tag lines rubbing the world's face in your
special brand of narrow mindedness. Stop trying to get me to pay for your
viewpoints in the public square and I won’t expect you to pay for mine. Just
stop it. You alienate so many by your actions. So many cry and wonder why
their churches are empty and it’s because the best you can do are arbitrary
marks on bank documents. BTW, the one that counts, the all seeing eye, that’s
another Deist symbol, represents in some minds all gods or in others the great
architect of the universe. Could represent the universe itself and it’s
inherent intelligence. So stop writing about Fore Fathers and their beliefs,
they weren’t writing about yours.

The moderators should institute a no bible verse, no anybody verse policy and
no more injections of religious nonsense in apple related or headphone related
threads please. No really please, take it else where, I’ll happily discuss it
but in it’s proper place, please!

I’m done and if Phil wants to make any more personal comments then I’m really
done and you can rot in hell which by the way was a concept created in the
1850S not in earlier versions of Christianity. But I digress.

And if I’m to be Moderated then I’d only ask that equal moderation happen as
it’s as offensive for me to have to filter through the garbage as it is for the
other side to filter through my responses.

And all this while we enter in to orbit around Jupiter. One of the highest
expressions of our technical ability, science and humanity, exploration,
growth, learning and peaceful. Not to do it for money or fame but because it’s
there, because we drive to explore. This whole contrast and thread has made me
very sad. But hey, we did something right tonight in spite of it all… Welcome
to Jupiter! Congratulations on a successful orbital injection. Not bad for
some former tree dwellers and not for nothing at least it gives me some real
hope.
The end!
