Hi Angus, Do you know how to reimage the machine from scratch?
If you have it connected to either wifi or a wired connection to the internet then turn the machine off completely and hold down the command key and the letter r and keep holding them for approx. 30 seconds after the tone plays when you restart the machine. This will put the machine in to recovery mode, give it about the 30 seconds and then let go of command and r and try turning on voiceover, Note here that voiceover will speak in a very sad sounding voice as it's running in a very limited state but it's good enough to use to reimage a machine, Once you have vo running you will need to use disk utility to eraise the current hd but once done you can close disk utility and reinstall the os version. Hope this helps somewhat .
