Just to offer a different perspective, I don't like messing with headphones, so I don't. Though it is true that sometimes I end up holding the phone pretty close to my ear, if the environment is really noisy, most of the time I have gotten used to the volume, and usually find I can work the phone in noisy places without too much difficulty.
