Hello Matthew, I am using LoopBack for myself to root my audio during Skype calls or to make podcasts. I will go ahead and give you the step by step instruction, along with method that I personally prefer when rooted to insure that your audio is not screwed up. jUSt keep in mind that every time when the Mac has to be restarted, or if the audio device has to be unplugged it will cause audio problems. Instructions on rooting the audio to a different application 1. Open Loopback 2. On the window that appears, interact with table and see if Loopback audio is created by default. If not, press “create a new virtual device”. 3. After the new virtual device is created, interact with scroll area, and click on “Add source” popup button. From here you will choose a input source, which in this case will be a microphone. Also, as a side note, I would certainly use a headphones when rooting to avoid any looping issues through speakers. 4. Uncheck, mute audio sources, and check the box that says “monitor audio through” and make sure that built-in-output is set as a output device. You will then hear yourself through headphones along with your system audio, which could include all the rest of your Mac sounds. 5. Open “System Preferences” and navigate to sounds. Under sounds choose output tab and make sure from the list of output devices Loopback audio is selected. Do the same step for input device as well. 6. Now open Skype and make sure under Skype preferences, Audio/Video settings, and microphone settings, see if loopback is set as a microphone, or for my recommended settings I would choose system default. Another helpful resource, under ringing and speaker choose built-in-output to avoid any looping and echo problems during calls. As a side note, if you don’t want other participants in the call to not hear your VO, open Voiceover utilities and under sounds and sound output device select built-in-output. Now that it’s rooted, with LoopBack it’s really easy to unroot the audio. Here’s how 1. Open loopback, and under table uncheck loopback audio. This will completely disable Loopback audio from appearing in the System Preferences and will return audio settings to normal.
