Actually, Spotlight had nothing to do with it.  Force resetting didn't seem to 
work either.  This said, I think I'm getting pretty close to figureing out the 
cause.

I don't want to say just quite yet, as I don't want to give wrong information, 
but I think it's an app I downloaded which isn't playing nicely.
