Hello List, My husband has seen a demo of the new e-reader coming out. He's says it's excellent. He said that if a particular publisher wants to turn off the text to speech option then it's still no problem for the blind community using a screen reader because they can still use the built in screen reader to read the text of the book. He says you can make notes and such. He also said that if you're reading a book on your mac and then stop say on page86 then you have to run out you can then go straight to your cell phone and start where you left off and have your notes and such. At least that's how he best understood it. I'm personally quite excited about it. I believe, or guessing that for the most part the e-reader itself is complete or close to it since DH saw a demo of it, however, they're working on getting the books ready for download. I'm not positive on that info but they are definitely working on getting as many books as possible that will be available for purchase/download. Something like that anyways. I can't wait. :)
If it's ready before Christmas then I know I'll be asking for gift certificates to buy books. :) So, I'm not holding my breath for the amazon reader. I had hoped that they would have come out with something by now but i hope to support the K e-reader now. I imagine that eventually Amazon will feel forced to make their product accessible as it is not a good option for universities. Also, DH was told that the new e-reader is accessible with Voiceover and not just mac compatible. :) Christina On Nov 18, 2009, at 7:55 AM, Buddy Brannan wrote: > Well, except that it *is* mainstream.
