I don't think the iPhones ever had one. The radio might be part of the chips in there, but Apple disabled it somehow to where we can't turn it on. I think this is something exclusively for Android phones, but it would require headphones or a cable hooked to speakers to use for its antenna, so it wouldn't be real useful when the broadcasters say one would need it most on those TV ads because most of us don't carry wired headphones around.

Subject: radio and iPhone 5S

Hi all!
Just curious. I have heard that there is a built-in radio chip in most smart phones. Is this true and how does it become activated. If this is the case why do we need special apps to listen to radio?
I have an iPhone 5S and would like to know more about this.
Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Jim
