Hi Anouk, I posted a link to an Apple Knowledge Base page on printers and scanners supported in Leopard. Using the link to the HP Site given on that page, it was easy to find updated Snow Leopard drivers for the HP Scanjet 5590 scanner. I just went to the linked site they gave:
http://www.HP.com/ used item chooser menu to find "Support & Drivers", then selected the options for downloading drivers and software and typed in the model into the search field. That took me to a page with a long URL (I'll paste it in, but I don't know whether it will work for you): ttp://h20180.www2.hp.com/apps/Lookup? h_lang=en&h_cc=us&cc=us&h_page=hpcom&lang=en&h_client=S-A- R163-1&h_pagetype=s-002&h_query=Scanjet+5590&submit=Go+%BB You can choose the links for either the 5590 or the 5590P model scanners. Assuming you want the 5590 model, the page is: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DriverDownload.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=377691&taskId=135&prodTypeId=15179&prodSeriesId=377689&lang=en&cc=us&submit=Go%20 ยป Then you need to select your support language for the documentation and the operating system (with a separate entry for Mac OS X 10.6 in addition to Mac OS X). You probably want to start from the beginning and run your own search. And I would bookmark the original Apple Knowledge Base article on printer and scanner software at: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669 in case you need to check for drivers for a printer or scanner model from another manufacturer.
