Yes, that was me.  I was just saying that some DVD drives will not be 
sufficiently powered to boot by a MacBook, and that Apple had worked around 
this with their particular SuperDrive.

As for drivers, OS X supports all the hardware you’ll want to plug into it 
every day, with very few exceptions.  Those exceptions are rare enough, in 
fact, that I always prefer to stick to hardware that doesn’t require the 
drivers.  For supported hardware, the connection is generally instantaneous, 
with no reboot needed.
