Hi Denise,

I have run into this issue a few times while assisting others set up their
Gmail account in Outlook on a Windows machine. Apparently, Gmail does not
consider Outlook or the Mail app on the Mac to be secure. Going from memory,
what had to be done is that we had to sign into the Gmail account using the web
interface. Once there, we had to activate the link for Manage My Account. On
this page there was a link that said something about Security, activate this
link. Here is where I ran into trouble, at least using JAWS on a PC. There is
an option to Allow Less Secure Apps and this option is off by default.
Unfortunately, although it was always easy to locate the heading where this
option was available, JAWS would not identify the option located below the
heading as a checkbox and neither would any other Windows screen reader; I did
not try this with the Mac and Voiceover. If you have sighted assistance,
perhaps they can help with this last step. Once Allow Less Secure Apps is
enabled, all will work as it should.

I apologize I cannot provide the exact steps but hope the information above
will be enough to get you where you need to be.

Mauricio

the e-mail stated as follows:

someone just attempted to sign into your account with an app

that doesn't meet modern security standards.

We strongly recommend that you use a secure app, like Gmail, to access your
account. All apps made by Google meet these security standards. Using a less
secure app, on the other hand, could leave your account vulnerable.

What specifically did the Email say? The error message would probably provide
guidance as to what’s going on. Are you using two-step verification where you
have to enter both your password and a six-digit code when you sign into Gmail
from a new device? If so, you need to visit your Google account settings and
create an app-specific password rather than using the regular Gmail password
you use to sign in on the web.

Hello all,
I had an interesting problem when I attempted to setup my gmail account on the
MAc using outlook. I could not sign in with my password, and received an e-mail
saying that given the security level of gmail, it would not allow me to connect
through outlook. I successfully did this on the iPhone with outlook. does
anyone know why I would get this message on the Mac? thanks.
