Or what I do if I use apps frequently is I move them to the dock. To do this, just highlight an app you normally use and then press command+control+shift+T. Voiceover will say something like send to dock or something like that. Do this until you have all the apps you frequently use that you want in your dock. Then you can go to your dock with VO+D and type the first few letters of that app you want to use and then press enter to activate it. I hope this helps someone. I find the dock more helpful than going to the finder or mission control and launching them that way.
