Independent in that they are not needed to work the other.  That is, not 
dependent on each other for anything.  You can ask Siri to do things for you 
but not everything.  For example, you could ask Siri to play a song in the 
Music app, but I don't believe that you could tell him/her to adjust the EQ 
settings for that song.  I don't believe that she/he is so granular yet.

tasks and vice versa?
I am asking because as others point out from time to time, there are  ios 
applications that do not exist on the mac at all.
Those applications can only be used then with voiceover in ios, which does not 
involve siri?
