I can confirm this. Last year when I volunteered to beta test ioS 8, I use the restore function in iTunes because I didn't realize you could update until I got a very good MP3 webinar from Jonathan Mosen called "Testing, Testing". After the restore, boy was it sure hard to get my apps back from the App Store because of severe, sometimes serious, bugs with the beta.
