Well, for the sake of the OP, I sincerely hope you’re both right. When I next get chance I’ll do a new initial setup of FileVault and see how it goes, but the last time I tried it was very clear that I’d need either password or key, and the only way to change the password was by putting in the key.
As a general rule, and in case it’s not already clear, good modern cryptography is dangerously effective. Don’t forget your keys!
