For various reasons, most particularly the use of Internet Recovery, I suggest getting yourself an Ethernet adaptor regardless.
As to your question, though, although I know the menu extras are accessible from within a fully-booted live system, I’m not sure that the same holds true for the recovery system. Even with VoiceOver speaking the main window and menu bar, it doesn’t seem to jump to the menu extras on command.
