Hi Chris,

What your friend is talking about is the new standerd thaP Apple is now using 
called USB C.  You  basicly have a USB port that is used for charging.  I do 
not have a MBP so can’t help you there, but if you google it, you will find 
information on this and I think a lot of computers are being built with this 
technology  being used.  HTH.
