You can use vo-cmd-t to move to the next table; from the groups table, that will land you on the contacts in that group. Add shift to jump backward, moving from contacts back to groups.
Copying is easier than you might think. Find a contact in any group, and copy it with cmd-c, right from the contacts table. Move to the groups table, find the group, and hit cmd-v, while still on the group in the table. That will put the contact in that group.
