The only restrictions I am aware of are that you cannot set your Mac to
automatically log in when rebooting, and the guest user is limited. Guests can
only access the Safari web browser. Aside from that, FileVault is pretty
transparent. When the machine begins booting up, it’ll ask you for your
username; type that in then press ENTER. It will then ask for your password;
type that in and press ENTER. You will then be logged in and can use your
machine normally, unless either the username or password is incorrect in which
case you will be prompted to type it in again. These prompts appear on screen
and can easily be memorized, but if you want audio prompting, hit CMD+F5
shortly after hearing the startup chime. Depending on which Mac you have,
you’ll either hear a series of beeps or audio feedback to guide you through the
login process. If you set up FileVault while VoiceOver is on, these cues will
be explained. I turned on FileVault months ago and have never looked back.

Hello all:
I finally took the plunge and updated to Yosemite. All has gone smoothly, but I
am uncertain about file vault encryption.
As a matter of principle, it sounds great. I just tried to use Spotlight to
search through Macvisionaries messages to see if there has been discussion of
this already, and only one message came up, and I know there must be others,
but I cannot seem to get a handle on the new spotlight; I am not getting a list
of relevant items.
If anyone could share with me, off-list if this has been covered before,
whether there are any VO issues, or any convenience issues, anything
problematic whatsoever, it would be much appreciated.
The advantages to using it are obvious; are there any disadvantages?
Thanks.
Christine
