Hi Mary,
Reading tables in a pdf file is a big deal for me as well.  I don’t know of a 
solution on the Mac as yet.  Adobe reader on Windows with NVDA does a 
reasonably good job with this.  An accessible version of Adobe on the mac would 
be quite helpful.

The other approach I’ve thought of is to convert the pdf file to html which 
would hopefully preserve the tables and links.  Safari should be able to handle 
such an html rendering.
