If it does work, you could convert to an image format like jpg or bmp. That
might give better OCR results. I heard they are the fastest scanners out
next to actually doing the KNFB thing.

Subject: ScanSnap, Scanning Solution?
Hi All,
Does anyone use ScanSnap? I'm thinking about iX500.
How is their software accessible on Mac or Windows?
Because they don't support twain, most OCR software like abbyy, kurzwhile,
or Openbook can't access the scanner directly.
It looks like I have to scan using their software, export into pdf, and
import back to OCR software.
I tried Hovercam t5v solution. Even though their software was accessible,
result is not as good as flat-bed or document scanner.
Thanks for help!
JL
