Hi there First, try pairing it with your Mac and please let me know how you come out. It was a problem under Mavericks, and I have a focus 14 paired with my Mac.however, I had a terrible time getting it to work. I finally had to go for a Genius Bar appointment to get it to work.
Having said all that, once you do get it to work, there are commands which are common to braille displays that have keyboard input. The tab command that you mentioned, four instance, is done with the T and the space together. A lot of the commands that you are using on the iPhone will also work on your Mac. Not all of them exactly like it, but quite a few of them.
