Hi,

Hmmm is right.  At that point, it should be the BaseStation password that you 
need.  So, after going into Airport Utility, pressing cmd-shift-o, entering the 
IP Address of the router and the BaseStation password,, it rejects you?  I just 
tested it on one of the Extremes I have here at and it opened as I outlined.  
If you have the ability to connect with an ethernet cable, give that a try as 
the direct connection should work for sure.
