Time Capsule is an excellent choice. In addition to being a network backup target, it's also an 802.11AC Wi-Fi base station and router. So it can make your network go faster and more reliably, too. :)
Back To My Mac is actually supported by Time Capsule, too, which means that if you shared an Apple ID you could reach someone's Time Capsule across the net. However this probably isn't the best solution for backups, because Time Machine always occupies as much space as it can get irrespective of the underlying disk used. Without some complicated command line foo, it's difficult to restrain Time Machine for the selected disk.
