Hi, Yes. Unformatted drives will appear in Disk Utility. The hard drive was not installed properly despite what Geek Squad said. You may want to check system information app, to see if you see the controller in the SATA bus. It could be as simple as a loose connection, but fixing it will require opening up the Mac yet again.
