The FaceTime from the Mac App Store is for Snow Leopard users; don't buy it.

You need to be aware that FaceTime works a little differently from other apps 
on the Mac, in that it's very iOS-like; you don't open or close dialogs.  
Therefore, the top button is usually a back button, and you mustn't try to 
close the window.  Likewise, the checkboxes and pull-down lists are essentially 
replaced by separate screens, and you have to use a little intuition to figure 
out whether a number or address is turned on or not; normally, check the caller 
ID option to see which ones are turned on.

I hope this gets you a bit further, if nothing else.
