Use iCloud. It's automatic, happens all the time (not just when you are able to physically plug in your phone), and is free. As someone else said, you have to pay for extra storage, but I haven't yet paid for anything and I haven't even filled half of the 5GB every iCloud user gets free. Plus, iCloud syncs across any Mac, PC (using Outlook and a special plugin), and iOS device you sign into, as well as www.icloud.com.
