A much simpler and faster way to do this is to invest in an inexpensive bluetooth keyboard. Pair the keyboard to your phone and then most of the VoiceOVer keys you are accustom to using on the Mac do the same thing on your iOS device.
You can buy cheap bluetooth keyboard for well under $20 now. really good ones like those from Apple go for less than $100 but they will all work the same.
